Mother's Day 2009
To give myself a pat on the back, we had a simple dinner celebration in conjunction with Mother's Day. After much deliberation, we headed to Miss Saigon at E-Gate.
This little shop is one of the many shops located at the ground floor of E-Gate. Although minimally decorated, the ambience is nice and warm. Since this was my first encounter with Vietnamese food frankly I didn’t know what to expect. We therefore followed the first rule of the thumb, order whatever that looked nice on the menu (second rule is probably to order whatever the table next to you is eating :p). Harby ordered chicken cooked in bamboo and I ordered the grilled cat fish. Both came with a serving of rice and some vegetables. We also ordered the traditional Vietnamese popiah (which I cannot remember what it’s called now). The verdict? Superlicious!! (If there is such a word)
As I said the food was really good and we truly enjoyed our meal. The chicken that Harby ordered was slightly spicy and it was moist and juicy. As for my fish, it was perfectly done. The slightly burnt fish skin really brought out the aroma of the entire dish. Sarah enjoyed the fish very much and kept asking for more helpings. The fish serving was big and therefore we had to ask Harby to finish it up. The popiah thing comes with 2 different version on the menu, the northern and the southern flavor. We ordered the northern one and it was a very refreshing experience for me. The popiah is basically vegetables, prawn and herbs wrapped in traditional clear rice skin. The chilly dip that came with it complemented the entire flavor.

So far that was the celebration for me. However, sadly I didn’t get the chance to celebrate it with my mummy dearest. Sis will have to do it on our behalf. I tumpang-ed sis with the gift. Hopefully she gets something nice for mum.
Since this post is about Mother's day, here's something specially dedicated too all the mother's out there. (Not written by me. I just ceplak it only)
Very meaningful isn't it?

It takes a Mother's Love
to make a house a home,
A place to be remembered,
no matter where we roam.
It takes a Mother's Patience,
to bring a child up right,
And her Courage and her Cheerfulness
to make a dark day bright.
It takes a Mother's Thoughtfulness
to mend the heart's deep "hurts,"
And her Skill and her Endurance
to mend little socks and shirts.
It takes a Mother's Kindness
to forgive us when we err,
To sympathize in trouble
and bow her head in prayer.
It takes a Mother's Wisdom
to recognize our needs
And to give us reassurance
by her loving words and deeds.
It takes a Mother's Endless Faith,
her Confidence and Trust
To guide us through the pitfalls
of selfishness and lust.
And that is why in all this world
there could not be another
Who could fulfill God's purpose
as completely as a MOTHER!
